Lynemouth (Biomass , Active) Location in the UK : England, Northumberland Type of installation: Biomass on/offshore: on Turbines :0 Capacity : 420 MW Approx Date of 1st power generation: 21/11/2018
/YES
As of February 2014, biomass conversion is still intended to go ahead: The RES Group is looking to build a £350m biomass power station there, and another scheme involves Lynemouth Power Station, which aims to convert to biomass by 2015.
This is a unique UK Power station which is undergoing a sale process from Alcan to Curen, a subsidiary of RWE. Because this was/ is a dedicated coal fired station that was used for aluminium smelting it does not necessarily conform to regulations, for supplying the National Grid. The new owners want to convert it to a biomass plant as detailed in the summary of an exemption application that would allow the station to remain open.
Please note that where multiple DECC rcords are available, all are shown in order. eg Project then repowering / extension, or refused project then resubmitted.
