Feb 2015 CfD auction: One of the two successful offshore wind projects was ScottishPower Renewables’s East Anglia 1 farm off the Suffolk coast. It will get a contract for 714 MW of capacity.
The initial plans were for the project to install up to 325 offshore turbines in a 300 kilometre square zone over 43 kilometres off the coast, delivering around 1.2GW of capacity.
However, the use of larger turbines means that the project will now see up to 240 turbines installed, while still delivering the expected 1.2GW of capacity.
ScottishPower Renewables has connected the East Anglia ONE offshore wind farm to the UK’s electricity grid. With a capacity of 714MW, the windfarm will be fully operational and producing clean, renewable energy in 2020.
