 Comment

Initial installation of 13 turbines in 2005. The wind farm produced 19.5MW of electricity, enough to power the equivalent of approximately 12,000 houses.

As part of the development Airtricity has created the Tappaghan Community Fund. The local community will benefit directly from this new wind farm as £13,000 from the Fund will be invested in local community schemes in the area each year, £260,000 over the lifetime of the project..

Extension July 2009 Adds 6 more GE1.5 turbines producing 9 MW

All the foundations for the turbines have been constructed and six out of the 13 turbines have been erected. The development involves the erection of 1.5 MW turbines on Fermanagh's border with County Tyrone, made up of the townlands of Glenarn, Stranahone and Stranadamff. The wind farm is to be commissioned in February (2009) next year. The wind farm will produce 19.5MW of electricity, enough to power the equivalent of almost 12,000 houses. This represents 57 per cent of the domestic electricity needs of the population of Fermanagh District Council.

The local community will benefit directly from this new wind farm as £1,000 per turbine, £13,000 in total, will be invested in local community schemes in the area each year. This will begin one year after commissioning has taken place.
