Tyseley Energy From Waste. The new ERF plant was built to comply with strict European emissions standards that came into force in 1996. The facility was specifically designed to treat waste that cannot be re-used, recycled or composted and was built with a capacity much lower than the total waste generated in the city. Some 90,000 tonnes of ash are produced in the incineration process at the Tyseley Energy from Waste Plant. Just over 9,000 tonnes is 'Fly Ash' which is toxic and sent for disposal. Some 8,000 tonnes are sent to landfill but the balance of around 70,000 tonnes is processed at the Castle Bromwich site for use in road construction.
